Socio-political networking

This article describes the process Valerie Ervin, an aspiring city council member in Montgomery, went through to secure her seat. She negotiated with potential campaign managers who proposed to secure the younger voters by launching a campaign across MySpace, Facebook, and YouTube. Ironnically, the campaign managers can't even offer their own votes being that they are only 17 years old. But they do speak SNC quite fluently.

Ben, I've read other articles about youth getting involved in politics via social software and I think it's very exciting. The idea of young people being active in a process in which they cannot yet be heard through voting is exciting. I haven't yet seen any campaign ads on Facebook but there are quite a few on MySpace and it is clear that these SNC's are in fact becoming utilized for all types of advertising. On Facebook it appears that there is more of a movement toward young people showing an interest in politics and issues that will affect them. When I was 17, politics seemed like an issue that I was not yet mature for, but social software (YouTube, IM, SNC's) is allowing these "kids" the opportunity to have a voice.

Hi guys - I don't know much about US politic and stuff. But I found this bit from Time magazine last week reporting Michael J. Fox story in Youtube and felt like it's somewhat related to what we are talking.

New McCaskill for Missouri TV ad featuring actor Michael J. Fox talking about Claire McCaskill and stem cell research.

At least we know what's going on out there. Like Jade said, political issue is crawling to social software.
