learning contract

I have completed my formal learning contract for the Technical PD. It is available here. I realized I had piled on more than I needed when Professor Dawson reminded us Masters students only need to do either the PD or book review. I can't honestly say I'm disappointed. But I will still use the texts I have acquired as a backbone for my venture into web architecture.

My boyfriend (Mat) and I were having a debate about Flash yesterday because I used the macromedia suite to create some of the images on my website. I used Fireworks to do the images, and Mat thinks Fireworks is the one that creates videos, but I thought that was Flash and that Flash had similar capabilities to Camtasia. Is that right?

Fireworks is used for editing photos particularly for web delivery. It can also be used to create interactive buttons and images for use in Flash projects. For web stuff, I generally prefer Fireworks to Photoshop.

I am quickly learning that Camtasia has about as much functionality as Flash's left little toenail. Flash is like Adobe Illustrator with a time line for animating the illustrations you can create. You can create simple to complex animations, then use Flash's scripting language, ActionScript 2, to create interactive content. Honestly, it's a seriously intimidating piece of software, even for developing simple animations. This page links to some websites designed entirely in Flash.
